About the centre

The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation is the only centre of its kind in Europe and is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund. It brings together the expertise, resources and global contacts of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international commercialisation consultancy Inventya Ltd. SME-led collaborative R&D partnership with two world-ranking universities underpin the development of new products, processes and services for the global marketplace, which by virtue of their use, manufacture, raw materials, reuse or disposal, deliver positive environmental impacts.

Up to 50 three year fully funded graduate researcher positions available

The programme is open to graduates of any age, whether from the UK, EU or worldwide. You will be judged on your academic qualifications and possibly your work experience and expect competition to be high, only the best will be selected. We are looking for 50 exceptional people with significant ambition, high quality academic track-records and a passion to turn the highest quality research into real world commercial solutions with a positive environmental benefit.

Partner with a high-growth innovative science & technology business

The centre’s graduate programme is designed to give outstanding graduates enviable opportunities to kick-start a well-paid career in the UK and overseas, by linking doctoral-level research with an ambitious and growing Northwest UK company. Our programme is pioneering and uniquely aligned with the specific needs and goals of a cohort of 50 specially selected high-growth businesses from across a range of sectors including (but not limited to) the aerospace, automotive, chemicals, digital and creative, energy and environmental technologies and high value manufacturing sectors.

Work on a collaborative project with business whilst gaining a PhD

We are seeking innovative people prepared to work in challenging roles, embed themselves in a partnership between academia and business, undertake intensive R&D on a specific research project for a business and add real value to the business, whilst expanding their own knowledge. This ensures the relevance of our programme towards current research-intensive growth sectors and encourages knowledge exchange, the early adoption of emerging ideas in science and engineering and embeds innovation at the heart of each business we partner with.

Graduates will spend up to 50% of their time based with a partner company over the course of their 3-year projects.

What kind of Graduates are we looking for?

This prestigious fully-funded programme starts in October 2012 and is available to only 50 graduates with first degree or equivalent qualifications in:

  • Chemistry and chemical engineering
  • Computing and Communications
  • Environmental sciences
  • Natural, Biological and Earth Sciences
  • Ecology and conservation
  • Geography
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Applied mathematics
  • Life Sciences and biotechnology
  • Physics and quantum technologies

International graduates

The centre is currently in discussion with the national authorities in order to understand if we will be able to appoint non-UK or European union citizens to some of the graduate researcher positions.
